What is ICO regulatory policy? According to Cointelegraph, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has started implementing similar regulatory policies for ICOs.

On March 6, 2018, the cryptocurrency project ICO, jointly launched by Ripple Labs and a startup company based in New York, was found to have engaged in fraudulent activities without proper supervision. The project was criticized for its complexity and lack of disclosure, making it unable to meet market expectations. According to a statement, these fraudsters raised up to $2 billion through the sale of tokens to steal investors’ interests. They also evaded sanctions by failing to provide any information about the issuer. However, although ICOs still carry high risks and can result in financial losses, they may also pose additional security threats, which may be related to the large-scale fundraising events in 2017. Between April 16 and December 9, 2017, the U.S. Department of the Treasury stated that it would investigate whether to approve or reject new digital asset plans, indicating that these plans would be submitted to state-level governments by the end of the first quarter of 2019.

They also found fraudulent ICO activities on the platform. Therefore, in order to prevent investors from being scammed and protect their funds from being affected, ICMarkets has issued a report on new guidelines on how to prohibit its trading and provision of digital currency derivatives, to determine whether ICMarkets should be considered as securities. It is reported that these charges were made in competition with the U.S. SEC or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding certain cryptocurrency products.
